Trustees of corporate pension schemes have extremely onerous responsibilities. They are routinely faced with making decisions about such things as solvency, investment strategy, actuarial reports and valuations. They have to agree levels of contributions with sponsoring employers and cope with ever more complex legislation. Trustees who are also directors of the company may well find themselves in a position of conflict, with two possibly irreconcilable duties – looking after the best interests of the scheme members and those of the company. This is where the services of an Independent Trustee can be of immense practical help. Effectively they can fulfil the role of ‘non executive director’ to the board of trustees, giving advice and aiding communication with the company and other advisers like Scheme Actuary and, of course, the members. We at MW Pensions are pension professionals – actuaries, consultants and trustees – with a wealth of experience. We are completely independent with no tie-in with other institutions. We are independent trustee to a number of UK schemes and we provide a full service to them, helping them to manage often difficult situations. These schemes get director/senior partner level advice and support but for reasonable, value for money and transparent fees – all agreed in advance. We have a leaflet outlining how we can help you.
